Neighborhood Housing Group

Increasing Affordable Housing in Zanesville

The Neighborhood Housing Group (NHG) is an organization formed by the Zanesville Think Tank on Poverty in 2020. The NHG is comprised of community members from Zanesville who are working to renovate and build safe, clean, and affordable housing in partnership with Praxia Partners. The NHG will also develop training and employment opportunities to turn our housing problem into a career solution.

The Goals of the NHG include:

  1. New build affordable housing projects
  2. Rehabilitation of old properties in Muskingum
  3. Building community involvement, and ownership of the project

According to a 2019 city-commissioned report on housing, affordable housing is critical to Muskingum County. 68.1% of rental housing was built before 1970 (46 % of all was built before 1950!). 47.2% of all renters in Zanesville are also considered "cost-burdened," meaning they spend over 30% of their income on housing.
